At £500 this is great value. However, do not even begin to think that this is a price point that compromises on quality. This is a laptop that comes with a fast processor, loads of RAM and oodles of memory. Let’s look at those for a moment;

For those of you already part way through your research, you’ll no doubt be impressed with those specifications. For those of you just starting out, let’s break those key features down.

Intel Core i3 Dual Core Processor – The new Intel Core i3 processors are dual-core but yet are faster than the AMD A8 which has four cores. The i3 CPU is essential to the HP G6-2168SA performing well and helping you to work fast.

Processor Speed 2.3GHz – Think of the processor speed as the brain speed of your PC. If you think slowly the answers and responses you give will be slow. But if you are up to date and fast, everything will be processed and output much faster. So, at 2.3GHz, you’ll have plenty of speed for everyday tasks.

RAM 6GB – RAM (pronounced ramm) is an acronym for random access memory and is a type of computer memory that can be accessed randomly; that is, any byte of memory can be accessed without touching the preceding bytes. The Toshiba C850 is priced at just £299 which makes it £200 cheaper than the HP G6. However, it has 2GB compared to the HP’s 6GB, 320GB of memory vs 1000GB and a processing speed just two-thirds that of the HP at just 1.6GHz. Ah, I hear you cry, that’s not fair, it’s a cheaper laptop and perhaps you’d expect it to have a lower specification?

Fair enough, let’s take a look at the Asus UX32A which retails at £799, which is £300 more than the HP. So, does the significantly higher price mean better spec? Er, in a word, no. The Asus offers 4GB of RAM compared to the HP’s 6GB, half the memory capacity at just 500GB and quite a disappointing 1.7GHz clock-speed against the HP 2.3GHz.
